Here's what happened. We were deep into planning our home theatre — the screen, the seating, the whole obsessive spiral of it — and I kept coming back to this nagging feeling that something was off before you even walked into the room. The door was fine. Perfectly fine. And fine is exactly the problem.
I ended up down a very long, very beautiful rabbit hole of vintage solid wood carved Indian doors and ornate carved Indian doors and I am genuinely not the same person I was before.
These doors — salvaged from old havelis, carved by hand in teak and sheesham into these extraordinary compositions of botanical detail, geometric precision, and ornate surface work so deeply layered you could stare at them for ten minutes and keep finding new things — they do something to you at the threshold.
